Argumentative Essay (Debate)

ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY (DEBATE)

The new traffic law in Costa Rica

New traffic law in Costa Rica began to take effect in March 2010. From this date the fines or penalty are much higher than before but was eliminated the points system, which was lower them a total of 50 points, according to the infringement.

Many citizens have expressed dissatisfaction and are not in accordance with the law because they disagree with some of the items proposed in the act, most of all by the high fines, punishments and imprisonment.

With the implementation of the new regulation, those who drive more than 0.75 grams of alcohol in the blood, or run over 150 miles per hour, are exposed to terms of imprisonment of one to three years and the immediate suspension of driver's license for an initial term of two years.

This issue concern to the Costa Rican population because has approved the increased level of blood alcohol to drivers. Since now a drunk driver, first-it will not go to jail and this regardless of the wrongs has been fatal. The law should be zero tolerance for drunk drivers.

There are certain items that should change or improve the welfare of Costa Ricans but in many ways I agree, such as:

1. The payment and jail sentence to a drunk or reckless driver.

2. Use the baby seat or booster.

3. The mandatory use of seat belt.

4. Not to allow cell phone use.

5. Have a first aid kit and fire extinguisher.

We must raise awareness of the high amount of traffic accidents, road deaths and fatalities that have occurred on the streets and maybe with this new law to the situation can improve.

This teenager was born Memphis, Tennessee, one of twelve children of Michael Jerome Williams and Denise Oher. His mother was addicted to crack cocaine since her pregnancy with him. As a result, he received little constructive attention during his formative years. He repeated both first and second grades, and attended eleven different schools during his first nine years as a student. He also alternated between time spent in various foster homes and periods of homelessness, before he was sixteen years old.

Big Mike (Quinton Aaron) survives and is virtually only one homeless when Leigh Anne Tuohy (Sandra Bullock) finds out in the street. Upon hearing that the boy is a classmate of her daughter, Leigh Anne insists that Michael, who wears shorts and T-shirt in the depths of winter; out of the streets. Without hesitating, invites him to spend the night at her home. What begins as a gesture of generosity becomes something else when Michael becomes part of the Tuohy family even though its origins are very different.

She welcomes Big Mike in her home giving him the opportunity to know what a real family is, sharing with them all and even embrace and adopt him as family member, give him the best opportunities for study. The boy with the amount of problems he had development in the instinct of protection to the family which leads him to be the best blocker or quarter back in football.
When the boy is about to go to college principals of the top universities in USA want to have as a player. Michael had an amazing talent for playing football resulting in one of the stars of the NFL (National Football League)

It is a beautiful and emotive film that demonstrates the importance of living in family and helps others regardless of skin color or socioeconomic status.

Ethnic Problems

ETHNIC PROBLEMS

Ethnic conflict is a sociological term to define any confrontation of a violent nature, war or military between two or more ethnic groups. An ethnic is a group of people from different cultural, religious, racial, national or geographical. Members of an ethnic group identified with each other and share a common ancestry in and various historical ties and maintain in the present cultural practices and social similar behaviors.
Ethnic conflicts have existed on humanity since the beginning of time and one of the most serious and severe ethnic conflicts have been the Arab-Israeli Conflict that is between the State of Israel and Arabs, particularly the Palestinians.
Arabs and Jews faced half a century, since 1947; after Israel achieved its independence in Palestine and create their own state. The conflict between them is one of the main reasons for terrorism in the Middle East.
Both countries are in a constant war where many innocent people have died in the hands of the violence of these ethnic groups and the worst problem is that until these days has not seen a solution.

The Causes of Poverty and Ways to Alleviate It

POVERTY

The poverty is a situation or forms of life that arises as product of the impossibility of access or lack of the resources to satisfy the physical and psychic basic human needs that affect in a wear of the level and quality of life of the persons, such as the supply food, the housing, the education, the sanitary assistance and health care or the access to the drinkable water.

The reasons why so many people cannot meet their basic needs are very complex and aspects of economic, structural, political, social, and others are combined. Poverty affects millions of people around the world and I think it is very difficult to know exactly what the reason why there are poor people is, but I think in part due to the opportunities which each person have; such as the area where you live, the lack of employment; there are very few employment opportunities, as well as low salaries; the education you received and not all people have access to education and the help of government that don’t has the potential for provide housing and food for everyone.

As human beings we should be in solidarity with those who have less fortunate, with people who have less than us. We can help in different ways like do charity work, donating food, clothing and help in shelters.

ADVANTAGES OF IMMIGRATION

Many countries around the world are seen by many people as a place to improve the style and living conditions. Including USA, where many Latin Americans, but especially Mexicans see it as the "American Dream".
In our country many people also come from other countries for various reasons, some of them come from tourism to know our country, come to beaches, mountains, volcanoes, know the flora and fauna, etc.

But in other cases as particularly Nicaraguans, Colombians and Dominicans come in search of a better life and opportunities for better housing, employment, social security, education, etc.
This brings many advantages and disadvantages to our country: Advantages:

The Globalization of Infections Diseases

THE GLOBALIZATION OF INFECTIONS DISEASES

Infectious diseases are being spread very quickly around the globe, emerging outbreaks faster and becoming increasingly difficult to treat, according to World Health Organization (WHO). In recent decades, new diseases arose at the unprecedented rate of one per year and have the ability to cross borders and spread rapidly as never occurred in the past because of globalization.

Regardless of our age, gender, lifestyle, race, education, socioeconomic and cultural level, human beings are threatened continuously for infectious diseases.

It is hard to imagine everyday situations such as working, eating in restaurants, workplaces, schools or childcare, transport on the bus or by air, vacation on a beach, desert or forest immersed in a hot tub, relax in the backyard, drink water, have sex, playing with the pet, hospitalization, may represent now facts of life and death.

The number of infectious diseases affecting humans has increased dramatically in recent years, the WHO, for example, has spread the news that in the past 20 years, there have been no fewer than 30 new human infectious diseases.

In the era of globalization, infectious diseases pose a serious threat to mankind, because of its rapid spread in the world and the possibility of the spread of new epidemics threatening.

Some of the recent epidemics and diseases are AIDS, AH1N1 virus, SARS, bird flu and Ebola that threaten to all people around the world.

Weapons Of Mass Destruction

WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION

Like any weapon, weapons of mass destruction have large negative consequences.

The weapons of mass destruction (WMD) are divided into three major groups, which are biological, nuclear and chemical. Are primarily used for damage and / or kill large numbers of people.

Despite the prohibition under the 1925 Geneva Protocol of biological or bacteriological weapons and non-proliferation treaty of nuclear weapons, the growing concern and fear we feel about such weapons is not unfounded. Such weapons have more power and impact that conventional, being the ignorance of its effects and consequences that followed the main cause of their panic.

The Nuclear weapons, except for some newer models, are weapons that were designed after World War II solely for use against large concentrations of civilians.

By means of chemical weapons agents such as napalm bombs (incendiary). Most of the chemical agents, however, is made up of toxic agents, stun, irritating, nerve, is so-called gas war is actually chemicals in gaseous, liquid or solid acting, through more or less complex mechanisms, often in the form of vapor, hence the generic name of gases.

Biological weapons are made by bacteria, viruses or toxins, which can cause epidemics or large-scale poisoning. There are a variety of them, from the influenza virus which can spread to fever and fatigue for several days at the agents responsible for leprosy, typhoid, polio, tetanus, smallpox, etc. The most threatening virus, experts agree, is the Anthrax and botulism toxin.

The proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, combined with the dissemination of knowledge and technology of dual use increases the risk that these weapons are used, or terrorist groups to acquire them, which could threaten and endanger the life of innocent people.
